THE DEER
These ink portraits are executed in the Tarashikomi, or wet-on-wet technique, refined by many Japanese artists in the Edo period. The technique is both unpredictable and exacting in its effort to capture the spirit or character rather than the precise likeness of an individual. The work is inspired by a a poem by Laurie Sheck.
