Vices and Virtues
This series explores the origin of virtues and vices by employing simple imagery to depict encounters with the natural world. The relationship between self and other often sets the stage for virtuous or vile actions. The work is inspired by Donna Haraway’s concept of situated knowledges, an understanding that the world cannot be reduced to a mere resource if subject and object are deeply interconnected. The spare, but focused imagery in these oil on panel diptychs invites viewers to contemplate the difference between a virtue and a vice. And, ultimately, how the power of the human hand might engage in a more nuanced and reciprocal set of relationships with the natural world.
